Atopia Smart Shirts
Atopia Sensor Modules are patented multimodal wearable sensors that have a unique “placement-agnostic” design. Atopia Sensor Modules are integrated in the Atopia Smart Shirt. Each Sensor Module is identical, but when placed in different parts of the garment it can measure different biosignals. Modules can be easily removed, allowing the Smart Shirt to be washed.
Each Atopia Sensor Module contains 2x EXG sensors, each capable of dynamically switching between sEMG (muscle activity), ECG (heart activity), and EEG (brain activity). Each module also contains a 9-axis IMU sensor for precision limb angle measurements, movement analysis, and position tracking. Each module also has haptic feedback and additional capabilities. Multiple modules are integrated in each Atopia Smart Shirt. The number of modules per garment is not a fixed number; it depends on the host architecture used to receive real-time data. Typically, 20 modules per receiver BLE dongle is achievable. Multiple receiver modules can be installed on a single computer if desired, allowing multiples of 20 modules to be possible. Typically, the number of modules per garment is optimized by design for the intended market and specific application; the gaming application currently uses 4 modules.
The Atopia Smart Shirt is the interface used to play “The Nexus“, an immersive virtual world that players interact with hands-free. It is also used to train EmPath, our emotion interface software.
Atopia is available for integration into 3rd party products.

The Nexus Gaming
The Nexus is a game, developed with C# in Unity. It is fun to play all on its own… but it also contains embedded Scenarios that cover a wide range of possible interactions and emotional responses.
The Nexus collects psychophysiological data which can be combined with passive data from video (eyes, facial expressions), voice, keyboard usage patterns, and more.
All of this data is designed to be converted into Affective State Vectors (ASVs) and Probabilistic Emotional States (PESs), which are associated with each Scenario and used to grow a database that maps Scenarios to PESs.
The Nexus is available for integration into 3rd party products.

EmPath
EmPath is designed as an “affect layer” that receives the database fed by The Nexus, using it to guide its behavior.
It is model-agnostic and intended to be plugged into LLM agents, planners, and game AIs alike.
User (not wearing sensors) queries Agent. Agent compares query to Nodes and Pathways in biometrics database, looking for closest match.
Agent evaluates PESs and Pathways choosing a potential response that minimizes harm based on both bottom-up emotional consequences to user as well as top-down ethical rules.
